ALLS endorses the new SELPA suggested delivery model for school based OT services, based on the guidelines of Federal legislation, CA legislation, and the AOTA.
ALLS has designed a unique model to implement educationally based OT services. This model is sensitive to budget constraints without compromising the effectiveness of servicing the rapidly growing population of individuals being referred for Occupational Therapy services.
Our model emphasizes an OT curriculum based on sensory motor development and encompasses but are not limited to:
- Integrating Occupational Therapists in special day classes
- Implementing a pre-referral process
- Training educators in various levels of OT service delivery
- Reaching OT goals through training ancillary personnel to implement modifications and strategies throughout all educational settings
- Providing unique language motor groups to reach both functional speech and occupational therapy goals
- Reducing “pull out” therapy through groups during recess, before and after school
- Providing immediate and appropriate consultation on challenging issues in the classroom through SST meeting inclusion
- Guiding the SST members and parents in writing appropriate SELPA service plans to accommodate the new OT service delivery model
- Creating appropriate sensory motor environments
- Implementing preschool/kindergarten programs through teacher training and curriculum based classroom groups to address sensory motor development and reduce referrals for special ed services in elementary years
We are committed to enable school districts to provide the necessary and ethical special ed services within their financial budgets. Our ability to customize this model to fit any school district’s needs and limitations allows for a greater opportunity for success.

What is Sensory Integration?
Sensory Integration is the brain’s ability to recognize, organize and interpret all information we receive from the world around us through our sensory systems. Our senses are not just involved with taste, smell, sight and sound, but our nervous system also sense touch, movement, body position and the pull of gravity. Sensory integration provides a crucial foundation for later, more complex learning and behavior. For most of us, effective sensory integration occurs automatically, unconsciously, without effort, but for some of us, this is an inefficient process, requires extreme effort and attention with no guarantee of accuracy. When this occurs, it is very difficult to attain goals we strive for in our daily lives.
